Caroline Bartol Preserve

Overlooking downtown Cave Creek is a magnificent hill offering 360-degree views of Black Mountain and the Desert Foothills of Tonto National Forest. Bedecked by hundreds of saguaro cactus, Saguaro Hill is an aptly-named Cave Creek landmark.

This was the first property purchased by the Land Trust, with the help of a bequest from Caroline Bartol. The Land Trust purchased 4.2 acres in 1997 and named the preserve in Caroline’s honor. In 2007, in partnership with the Town of Cave Creek, an additional two acres were added to the east side of the preserve and the trail was expanded.

The preserve features an interpretive nature trail where visitors can learn about the life and habitat requirements of the unique saguaro cactus; the Goldwater Memorial, where visitors can appreciate a panoramic view of the area; and the Richard E. Rudolph Garden. Thanks to the generous support of our donors and volunteers, this land is permanently conserved for the community, and is open to the public every day!
