Black Mountain Preserve North
Unlike most of our other preserves, this property was donated to DFLT as tradeland - meaning the donor had not restricted that it be used for conservation purposes. The Land Trust had the option of selling it for development purposes and using the sale proceeds for conservation purposes. However, following the 2009 merger with Black Mountain Conservancy, and the incorporation of protecting important community views as part of our mission, the Land Trust decided to permanently conserve the property. In 2012, it was dedicated as a preserve and opened to the public. Conveniently, this parcel is located adjacent to the Black Mountain Trail and protects important desert land that enhances hikers' experience on the trail.
