The H.B. Wallace Preserve

This
78-acre preserve is located on the eastern slope of what is
mistakenly known as Lone Mountain in Scottsdale and consists of a
rugged outcropping of rocks, shale, desert trees and cactus.
It is
home to wildlife and a haven for local hikers. The property is
protected though a conservation easement which was a gift from H.B.
Wallace.
The mountain itself is a metamorphosed remnant of sediment laid down
over 2 billion years ago, when a shallow ocean covered this part of
the world. About 1.7 billion years ago, magma rose from underneath,
and this remnant broke off from the surrounding rock and absorbed
into the pluton. Erosion of the granite has left this mountain
exposed.
