Our Land Fill and Recycling
Jim Blackburn
I surprise myself when I'm taking out our garbage. As a retired
couple here in the desert we take two bags of garbage, mostly from
the kitchen leftovers, to the landfill every two weeks (we don't
subscribe to a garbage collecting service) and more than that to the
local Carefree and Cave Creek recycle program services - every two
weeks.
I was amazed; our two bags of garbage were less than our collection
of papers, cardboard, glass bottles, my beer cans, and some other
cans.
What a difference from when we dumped these in the desert!
I've even noticed my neighbors on their hikes around the area
carrying a bag and picking up windblown papers, plastic and cans.
Our trails are amazingly clean!
Even our junk mail, including the envelopes, we now put in the stack
of newspapers for recycling.
Amazingly, we have less landfill disposable than what we take to the
recyclable efforts!
Can you do it too?
